Locating Scientific Journal Articles

  • Use the recommended library databases and journals listed on this page to search for articles on your topic area. You may be prompted to login to the databases using your myWilmU credentials.

  • Use keywords for searching and place quotes around phrases, i.e. "cell physiology"

  • Use keywords to identify the type of article you are looking for: i.e.  "research" or "experiment"

  • When searching in the databases, use limiters to refine your results - choose Scholarly Peer Reviewed Articles

  • Scan your results and view the title, subjects and abstract for relevancy to your topic

  • Read the abstract and look for a description of the research conducted, the hypothesis, the methodology and results. You are looking for original research and not a review article. You should see statements in the abstract such as, "we researched", "our experiment", "we discovered", etc.

  • Look for the PDF or HTML full text links to view the complete article

  • Articles not available full text can be requested using interlibrary loan. (go to the page in this guide titled - Get Items From Other Libraries)
