Who can borrow a laptop?
Students who are currently enrolled in courses at Wilmington University. Borrowers must have no billing holds on their library account, agree to the Laptop Program User Agreement and abide by the University's Policy on Computer Use.
When are laptops available and how many?
Laptops are distributed only during designated periods of the academic year. Typically the laptop request form is opened a few weeks before each semester. Laptops are then picked up or mailed during the week before the semester begins. Specific date information will be shared on this webpage when available.
4 weeks after the semester begins, any laptops not picked up will be made available to other students or held until the next semester.
The number of laptops available varies each semester. Generally it's between 20-40 laptops.
Is there a cost to borrow a laptop?
There is no cost to borrow a laptop. However, borrowers are responsible for returning laptops in good condition.
What kind of laptop will I receive?
You will receive a Dell PC laptop (model numbers will vary). The laptop will also be equipped with a web cam and be capable of downloading any necessary software for your coursework. This includes Microsoft Office 365. A Dell charging cord will be provided as well.
How do I setup the laptop once I receive it?
The laptop will need to be set up for use the first time. To setup the laptop, first connect to a WiFi network. Please follow directions on the screen when you turn the laptop on.
Important: When the Microsoft login screen appears, click on “Domain join instead” in the bottom left corner. Continue following the directions on the screen to finish setup.
Note: If you already have a Microsoft account, you are welcome to use it. However, your myWilmU email address will NOT work.
Troubleshooting: If you see a screen with “Something went wrong” please select “Offline account” in the bottom left corner. Continue following the directions on the screen to finish setup.
How will I know if my request is approved?
Requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We try to respond to requests within 2 business days, as our supply allows. Once you are approved an email will be sent to your provided email account with instructions on receiving the laptop. When necessary, you may receive a phone call. Please wait to visit the library until you've received an email.
How long do I get to keep the laptop?
Laptops can be used for as long as you are actively enrolled in courses at Wilmington University. If you need to take a block or semester off, we ask that you return the laptop and apply for a new one when you resume classes. Requests will only be accepted if you are currently enrolled in at least one course.
What if I drop or withdraw from my class(es)?
We ask that you return the laptop if you are not longer enrolled in any courses.
How do I return the laptop?
For Picked Up Laptops: Please return to the Library front desk on the New Castle Campus during open hours. Do not use the outside book drop.
For Mailed Laptops: When you are finished using the laptop for your coursework, the laptop can be mailed back using the pre-paid return label included in your original shipment.
Adhere the return label over top the previous shipping label. Please seal the box with tape. The box can then be dropped off to any UPS Access Point: www.ups.com/dropoff. There will be no charge to mail the package back.
If you lost the return label or did not receive one, please complete the Laptop Return Form to request one.
What happens to my information when I return the laptop?
All files, documents, and logins will be erased once the laptop is returned. Please save any files to your cloud storage or external device like a flash drive.
What if I have trouble with the laptop?
If you are experiencing a software or hardware issue, please contact our Technology Support team to see if a solution is available. If they deem a replacement laptop is necessary, email us at techlending@wilmu.edu to see if one is available. Returning the laptop will be required before a replacement can provided.
