Comcast has pledged to hire 10,000 members of the military community. "I can teach you the technology," said Derek Brown, a former Army artilleryman and VP of Enterprise Services at Comcast. "You just have to come through the door with a fire beneath you."

"The Container Store will open a location this fall at 2200 Fashion Center Blvd, Space 101 in the Christiana Fashion Center. The Container Store, like Newark-based W.L. Gore and Associates, has been listed in as one of the 100 top workplaces in a list published by Fortune Magazine.

According to the GlassDoor website, salaries for part-time employs run more than $13 an hour, compared to $10.40 hourly rate at Macy’s in the mall. Full-time employees can make $50,000 a year."

ACTS Industries announced they will open its international headquarters in Camden. The firm leased a warehouse at River Avenue and State Street. Officials with the company say the move will bring 1,000 jobs to the area.

"Amazon announced plans to hire 7,000 workers for its U.S. operation, with most jobs offering pay and benefits far above typical retail wages, the company said.
Amazon did not give specific pay scales for the positions, but said the 5,000 warehouse jobs will pay 30% more than jobs in traditional retail stores."

"The jobs are full-time permanent positions and also include stock grants that, over the last five years, have averaged 9% of pay for Amazon's full-time workers. And the company said many workers would also be eligible for 95% tuition reimbursement to those attending college, whether or not their field of study is related to their job."

Veterans who have recently returned home are getting the attention of Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart Stores (WMT, Fortune 500) said Tuesday that, over the next five years, it will hire every veteran who honorably left the military in the last year.

More than 100,000 people are expected to find work through the program, making it one of the largest hiring commitments for veterans on record, the nation's largest retailer said.

In recent years, finding any work, let alone good jobs, has been a struggle for veterans. The unemployment rate for veterans serving in recent wars has fallen some, but remained at a doggedly high 10.8% in December. That's still well above the 7.5% rate for nonveterans.

"Too many of those who fought for us abroad now find themselves fighting for jobs at home," Bill Simon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart U.S. said in a speech Tuesday.
